Uighiers

Waterlogged kingdom of monstrosities

Symbol: Hydra

Alignment: N

Capital: Vantagetown (pop. 2,620)

Notable Settlements: ?

(Last Known) Ruler: Aaryev Vantage, King of Uighiers; Prince of the Etma Delta

Government: Council of Lords

Description

Uighiers is the smallest of the Hydra Kingdoms, and the last chartered by Overking Tahnan when he united the Hydra Kingdoms. The mighty Etma River, which flows through Concoddte for much of its length, slows once it enters the flat land of Uighiers, spreading into the Etma Delta.

Thus, the kingdom is primarily marsh and swampland. Strange monsters have traditionally been found here (even before the Plagues), which has historically attracted the wrong sort. In addition to the trickle of hunters and adventurer types who crisscross the land, evil cultists and power seekers have always gravitated here, causing trouble for the rice farmers, salt workers, brickmakers, fishers, and trappers living in and around the Heiurgh swamp.

Capital: Vantagetown is a large town on the coast, near the edge of the delta. Its muddy streets run between brick buildings, most of which are warehouses for sea trade. A temple to the Luck goddess is the primary religious site in town, and the population does seem to enjoy gambling.

The capital city of Uighiers used to be farther inland, near the King's Road. However, once Aaryev seized control of the country after the Plagues, he moved it -- name and all -- to this formerly sleepy port town to put his capital near more reliable seafaring trade routes. The town has only recently gained sufficient facilities to befit nobility, such as a fully stocked castle and regulation Mickelsby field and stables.

Reports of doppelganger activity have also surfaced in Vantagetown recently. Little is known of their movements or motives.

Points of Interest:

  • The Heiurgh swamp contains the deadliest monsters known in the Hydra Kingdoms.
  • The Feverglades are the slightly less dangerous southern arm of the Heiurgh within a few miles of Vantagetown. One of the legendary Stepping Stones has been discovered at the bottom of a tower in the Feverglades.
  • The saltworks on the far outskirts of Vantagetown's reach are home to a school of martial arts known as Span of the Hydra.
